Statement Regarding the U.S. Supreme Court’s Majority Opinion in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization

June 26, 2022

“There is no mistaking that this decision is an unconscionable attack on women and on us all. Allowing government the ability to rip the most intimate and personal decision from a woman, forcing her into what may be harmful and life-threatening circumstances, will have devastating impacts for communities across the country. We must all urge Congress to act immediately.

In Hawaiʻi, we have taken steps to help preserve our rights, and abortion is still legal today for those that need access. In the weeks and months ahead, Hawaiʻi and our lawmakers must take action to strengthen protections for our own residents and families while also being a beacon of light and support for those around the country now facing darkness.

Less than 24 hours after the 50th Anniversary of Patsy Mink’s landmark legislation requiring gender equality in education, we are reminded that elections matter. It is imperative that every person exercises our right to vote.

Our organization’s mission is to elect pro-choice Democratic women, who will fight for reproductive choice, critical to a better quality of life for Hawaiʻi’s women and families. We will continue to stand and fight.”
